Georgia on my mind
Everywhere you read, we are told in nice, short sentences that Republicans around the country and particularly in Georgia are enacting laws to disenfranchise minorities. Even the president has said on national television that these efforts are worse than Jim Crow laws. What none of these sources actually tell you is what specifically is in the bills in their entirety.
A fact-checker at The Washington Post noted that the recent election laws passed in Georgia expanded voting opportunities for most state residents, which contradicts recent remarks from President Joe Biden.
New York’s early voting period begins 10 days before an election. D.C.’s begins only a week before. Georgia’s new law would expand early voting, adding an additional, mandatory Saturday and formally codifying Sunday voting hours as optional.
