Huberdeau receives NHL postseason honor
Writers vote winger Second Team All-Star behind Marchand
Jonathan Huberdeau of the Florida Panthers was named to the National Hockey League’s Second All-Star Team for the first time in his career Tuesday.
The top player of each position is named to the First Team, while the second most-voted player of each position is named to the Second Team.
In the left wing position, Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins was named to the First Team with 87 first-place votes, 10 secondplace votes and three third-place votes. Huberdeau was second in voting for the left wing position (5-58-24).
Other Panthers players with votes included star center Aleksander Barkov (0-1-15) and defenseman MacKenzie Weegar (3-12-18). Barkov placed sixth among centers and Weegar seventh among defensemen.
Voting for the postseason All-Star Teams was conducted by representatives of the Professional Hockey Writers Association at the conclusion of the regular season.
This honor is not to be confused with the NHL All-Star Game, which did not occur the shortened 2021 season.
Huberdeau was named an All-Star for the game previously and participated in the 2020 All-Star Game and Skills Competition.
The 2021 All-Star Weekend was originally supposed to be held at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, but was canceled due to the pandemic and compressed season.
The NHL announced Monday night that the 2022 All-Star Weekend will be hosted by Las Vegas.
Panthers President and CEO, Matthew Caldwell assured Panthers fans that the event will come to the city of Sunrise soon.
“We’re confident that the NHL All-Star Weekend will come to South Florida in the near future,” Caldwell said in a release Tuesday afternoon. “We would love to showcase our South Florida region, the revitalized War Memorial Stadium, and BB&T Center at a future All-Star event.”
