AROUND THE HORN

Dodgers: Police on Friday presented to prosecutors their investigation of Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer in the case of a woman who said he choked her into unconsciousness, punched her repeatedly and had anal sex with her without her consent during two sexual encounters. The Pasadena Police Department delivered the results of the three-month investigation to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office and the case is under review, district attorney’s spokesman Greg Risling said. Bauer’s representatives declined to comment. An email seeking comment sent to the woman’s attorney was not immediately answered. The move comes just over a week after a judge denied the 27-year-old San Diego woman’s request for a restraining order against Bauer. The woman said she sought the order when she learned that the criminal investigation against Bauer was likely to take a long time. She had spoken to police in San Diego when she was in the hospital after her second encounter with Bauer, in mid-May, and gave her account to detectives from Pasadena, where Bauer lives, soon after. After a four-day hearing last week that aired much of the evidence that police probed and that prosecutors will consider, Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman found that Bauer honored the woman’s boundaries when the woman set them, and could not have known about those he violated because she didn’t express them clearly. “We consider in a sexual encounter that when a woman says no she should be believed,” GouldSaltman said, “so what should we do when she says yes?” Gould-Saltman called the woman’s petition for the order “materially misleading.” The 30-year-old pitcher is also under investigation by Major League Baseball, and could face punishment under its Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

Reds: The Reds have claimed veteran infielder Asdrúbal Cabrera off waivers from the Diamondbacks, the teams announced on Friday. He’s expected to join the Reds for this weekend’s series in Miami. Cabrera has appeared in 90 games for the 2021 D-backs, slashing .244/.324/.392 with seven homers while spending the majority of his time at third.

Astros: The Astros signed veteran free agent infielder Marwin González to a minor league deal. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager James Click. González, 32, is a veteran of 10 MLB seasons, the first seven were spent with the Astros. During those seasons with the Astros, he hit .264 with 76 home runs, 292 RBIs and a .737 OPS in 795 appearances. This season with the Red Sox, Gonzalez hit .202 with 14 doubles, 2 home runs and 20 RBIs in 77 games.

Giants: All-Star catcher Buster Posey has returned to the Giants’ lineup after missing two games with discomfort in his left knee. Posey started Friday night against the Braves. Giants manager Gabe Kapler also said Friday that catcher Curt Casali, the fill-in starter for Posey who left Thursday night’s 3-2 win at New York due to dizziness, was available off the bench. Kapler said tests on Casali “didn’t find any evidence of a concussion.” Posey, the 2012 NL MVP, was under no restrictions, Kapler said. He had not played since being removed from Tuesday’s game. “We’ve taken every precaution to get him ready to play nine innings plus,” Kapler said.
