Geraldine “Gerry” Bolton

-

Geraldine Ann Cappelleto Bolton - “Gerry” - passed away peacefully Friday, September 24, 2021.

Born in Queens, NY on March 4th, 1930s to John and Anna Cappelleto, she became an official Floridian in 1938 when the family moved to Miami. Gerry spent many a weekend at her grandfather’s fish camp on Tamiami Trail known as The Blue Shanty where she picked up a skill for snake handling. Gerry attended Ada Merrit Middle School and graduated from Miami High in 1948. In her senior year, she was President of the school Sorority.

She married the love of her life, Burt Bolton, in June 1949. Together, they built a home in North Miami and a family of five children. Gerry was a wonderful wife to Burt, supporting his career trajectory at Amerifirst Federal Savings & Loan. And she was a marvelous mother to her active brood, volunteering to be a Scout

leader, term paper typist, school parent, church activity supporter, theater patron and sport cheerleader, all while balancing homemaking and part time jobs to contribute to the family nest egg.

Once retired, Gerry and Burt traveled on scuba diving trips, Lake Tahoe ski trips, and other amazing destinations such as Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and Australia. She was a loving grandmother to nine and a great grandmother to four. Her greatest pleasure was to walk the beach, collecting seashells and her greatest joy was to spend time with family.

The insidious disease Alzheimer’s came upon her in 2006 and she battled fiercely to hold on to her memories, her relationships and her health for a very long time.

Gerry was predeceased by her husband Burt in 2019, and their youngest child, Barbara in 2018. She is survived by daughter Gail (Stephen) Hoffmann, daughter Colleen Bolton, daughter Jill Bolton-Armstrong, son Keith Bolton, grandchildren Justin Bolton, Jessica Serao, Mariah (Travis) DeMers, Chris Armstrong, Zac Armstrong, John (Stephanie) Elliott, Mary Elliott, Kendall Bolton and Daniel Bolton and great grandchildren Alexis, Jetta, Isaiah and Liliana.

As we lay her to rest beside her husband, we will mourn this beautiful soul but rejoice in the end of her suffering, lost in a void of confusion and expression. We take comfort that she is now dancing with Dad and laughing with Barbara in heaven.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a tribute donation to Alzheimer’s Association at Alz.org Please sign guestbook on www.sun-sentinel.com/obituaries
