Steelers end 4-game skid

-

Mitch Trubisky came on for an injured Kenny Pickett to throw a 6-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and the Steelers’ maligned defense made it stand up in a stunning 20-18 win over Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Sunday in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers (2-4) snapped a four-game skid.

Brady struggled to take advantage behind an offensive line that had issues protecting him. He completed 25 of 40 passes for 243 yards and an 11-yard TD to Leonard Fournette with 4:38 remaining to cut the Steelers’ lead to two.

Linebacker Devin Bush broke up the 2-point conversion attempt and the Steelers ran out the clock behind Trubisky to avoid their first 1-5 start since 1988.

Trubisky, benched in favor of Pickett at halftime of an Oct. 2 loss to the Jets, passed for 144 yards and the TD to Chase Claypool.

Pickett, the 20th overall pick in the draft out of Pitt, entered the concussion protocol after being pushed legally to the ground.

Giants 24, Ravens 20: Julian Love’s INT and 27-yard return set up Saquon Barkley’s 1-yard TD dive with 1:43 to play, and the Giants rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to earn the victory at home. The Giants (5-1) have exceeded their 2021 win total.

Jets 27, Packers 10: Breece Hall ran for 116 yards, including a 34-yard TD, and the visiting Jets sacked Aaron Rodgers four times to win their fourth straight. The Jets (4-2) are off to their best six-game start since ’15. Colts 34, Jaguars 27: Matt Ryan threw a 32-yard TD pass to Alec Pierce with 17 seconds to play as the Colts rallied for the win at home. Ryan, 37, finished with a a franchise-record 42 completions on 58 attempts with three TDs and 389 yards — passing Dan Marino for seventh on the NFL’s career list for yards passing. Patriots 38, Browns 15: Rookie backup Bailey Zappe threw for 309 yards and two TDs in his third game, and Bill Belichick tied George Halas for second on the all-time list with his 324th victory as the Pats cruised on the road. Belichick, 70, who’s 324-159 including the playoffs, has a chance to pass Halas next Monday night at home against the Bears — the franchise with which Halas won all his games. Vikings 24, Dolphins 16: Dalvin Cook rushed for a 53-yard insurance TD in the fourth and the Vikings held on for the road win.

NFL receiving leader Justin Jefferson had six catches for 107 yards.

Bengals 30, Saints 26: Joe Burrow passed for three TDs, including a pair to former LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase, and scrambled 19 yards for a score as the visiting Bengals rallied for the victory.

Falcons 28, 49ers 14: Marcus Mariota threw a pair of TD passes and ran for another score against the NFL’s top-ranked defense as the Falcons won at home. Mariota completed his first 13 passes, finally throwing his lone incompletion on his final attempt of the day with less than 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Rams 24, Panthers 10: Matthew Stafford passed for 253 yards, and Darrell Henderson and receiver Ben Skowronek rushed for TDs in the second half as the Rams rallied at home.
