Tagovailoa league’s top vote-getter for Pro Bowl so far

- By Dave Furones

The NFL’s early leader in Pro Bowl fan votes is Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa has 59,680 fan votes for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games at the time of the NFL’s Wednesday release of the standings. His total is more than 15,000 more than second place, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud (44,095).

Tagovailoa is putting together an impressive 2023 campaign that has him tied for second in the NFL in passing touchdowns (24) and third in quarterback rating (106.0) and passing yards (3,457).

Along with Tagovailoa, his top target, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, is No. 4 in fan votes (39,928), behind Tagovailoa, Stroud and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (43,331). He’s ahead of former teammate and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (38,720), who is fifth.

The Dolphins, as a team, are second to the 49ers in garnering the most votes.

Tagovailoa and Hill aren’t the only ones leading their position groups in the AFC in fan votes. Joining them: Running back Raheem Mostert, fullback Alec Ingold, tackle Terron Armstead, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, long snapper Blake Ferguson, return specialist Braxton Berrios and special teamer Duke Riley.

The 2024 Pro Bowl Games return to Orlando and Camping World Stadium this season, taking place Feb. 4, a week before the Super Bowl. Last season, the Dolphins sent four players to the Pro Bowl: Hill, Armstead, cornerback Xavien Howard and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb.

Fans can vote as often as they like until Dec. 25 at ProBowl.com/ Vote.

Additionally, from Dec. 11 to Dec. 25, fans can vote directly on X (formerly Twitter) by tweeting the first and last name of the player, tagging the player’s official X handle or creating a hashtag including the player’s first and last name. All three of these methods must include the hashtag “#ProBowlVote.” During the final two days (Dec. 24 and Dec. 25), social votes will count as double.

Player selections will be determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches, with each group’s vote counting as one-third toward determining the all-star players who will be selected. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes Dec. 29.

Roster move: The Dolphins signed veteran defensive tackle Justin Ellis to the practice squad.

Ellis has played nine NFL seasons, spending time with the Oakland Raiders (2014-18), Baltimore Ravens (2019-21) and New York Giants (2022). He has appeared in 117 career games with 54 starts, recording 182 tackles (100 solo), 1 ½ sacks and three passes defensed. Ellis originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick, No. 107, by Oakland in the 2014 draft.

In a corresponding move, the Dolphins released safety Verone McKinley III from the practice squad. McKinley spent time on Miami’s active roster as an undrafted rookie in 2022. He played in 10 games with two starts.
