Days of Art: Lo­cal artists re­ceive honor for their work

On Au­gust 2, Boca Fes­ti­val Days kicked off this sea­son with the 23rd an­nual Open Ju­ried Art Ex­hibit Re­cep­tion at the Court­yard Build­ing. Lo­cal artist and mem­bers of the Boca Ra­ton Mu­seum Artists’ Guild par­tic­i­pated in the event by sub­mit­ting four ex­cep­tional pieces of art to be ju­ried by Carol Prusa, a well-ac­com­plished artist, who’s work is in the per­ma­nent col­lec­tion at the Mu­seum of Art Fort Laud­erdale, the Arkansas Arts Cen­ter, the Daum Mu­seum of Con­tem­po­rary Art col­lec­tion and the Telfair Art Mu­seum.

“It was a plea­sure to have ac­cepted the charge of ju­ry­ing this event, know­ing that I would be pre­sented with an in­cred­i­ble ar­ray of di­verse work from the vi­brant South Florida Artist com­mu­nity,” said Prusa, who also chose the win­ners of the 23 an­nual Ju­ried Art Ex­hi­bi­tion.

First place win­ner was pre­sented to pho­tog­ra­pher Joel Coss­row for “Stair­way to the Stars.” Sec­ond place win­ner was awarded to painter Adrian Catao for “Bulls on Pa­rade/Adny. Third place win­ner was pre­sented to pho­tog­ra­pher Alan Glueck­ert for “Vic­tory” Paris, France. And Gene Shu­rakov was awarded with hon­or­able men­tion for “Sur­real Poem.”

Boca Fes­ti­val Days be­gan in 1970 and is a month-long, city­wide se­ries of more than 40 events held dur­ing the month of Au­gust where the Greater Boca Ra­ton Cham­ber of Com­merce pairs par­tic­i­pat­ing non-profit mem­bers with for-profit mem­bers in an at­tempt to raise money for the non-prof­its. “In ju­ry­ing this event I se­lected works that sup­port my de­sire to see art that is well made, yet func­tions be­yond craft­that of­fers me some­thing I have never seen be­fore,” adds Prusa, who stud­ied paint­ing and was awarded an M.F.A. in paint­ing and draw­ing from Drake Univer­sity, Des Moines, Iowa.

The Boca Fes­ti­val Days 23 an­nual Open Ju­ried Art Ex­hibit is open to the pub­lic and held at the Court­yard Build­ing.
