Countess celebrates birthday with grand donation
Ordinarily, guests bring birthday gifts to the person celebrating a birthday, however it was the reverse at Countess Henrietta de Hoernle’s Afternoon High Tea held in honor of the Countess’ 96th birthday on October 11 at the Spanish River Library and Community Center located on Spanish River Blvd. in Boca Raton.
As Boca Raton’s most generous benefactor, the Countess provided a check for $500,000 to the City of Boca Raton’s Spanish River Library, with instructions that, as a challenge grant, she will match all donations up to $1,000,000. Many local dignitaries gave recognition to the Countess for her contributions and birthday including Mayor Susan Whelchel, Council Member Susan Haynie, past-Mayor Steven Abrams, along with her many friends from YMCA and other local organizations.
In appreciation of the contribution, the mezzanine of the Spanish River Library has been aptly named the “Countess de Hoernle Reading Room.”
Since the Library is a new facility, there are many naming opportunities available for those wishing to make donations.
