Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund’s Spring Campaign assists children stay afloat
With matching funds multiplying donations, the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund launched this year’s Spring Campaign to make a splash for local youth by providing brighter futures for children in the community.
Running through the end of June, the McCormick Foundation will match all donations at 50 cents on the dollar. The foundation, along with the Sun Sentinel, covers all administrative expenses so that 100 percent of every donation, including the match, is granted into the community.
Through the fund’s thorough review process, grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that can show measurable outcomes and offer year-round educational programs, provide nutritious meals and housing for those in need, and support child abuse prevention and treatment programs.
Campaign sponsors include JM Family Enterprises, Publix Super Markets, The Dennis & Lois Doyle Family Foundation, AutoNation and Children’s Services Council of Broward County.
Programs supported through the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund, such as the Milagro Center in Delray Beach, are aimed at making an important impact in the community. Their Standing Together Achieving Recognition and Success (STARS) program help at-risk school children achieve educational success by providing academic support. The students receive one-on-one academic enrichment and support by staff and mentors to ensure their future success in school and life.
“Although the Sun Sentinel’s Children’s Fund grant to Milagro Center constitutes just a little over 6% of our program budget, the grant itself carries an impact that is far greater than just the dollars. It brings a validity that encourages other organizations to support Milagro Center, helping to sustain the future of the program. We are honored to be a recipient of this award,” said Milagro Center’s executive director, Barbara Stark. Since its inception in 1991, the Sun Sentinel Children’s Fund has granted more than $45 million to organizations serving low-income families in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
