Stephen Wexler, husband of Broward commissioner
PLANTATION — Stephen Wexler, the husband of Broward Commissioner Lois Wexler, died Saturday evening at Westside Regional Medical Center Hospital after collapsing earlier in the day at home. He was 68.
The apparent cause of death was a combination of a stroke and heart attack, according to family friend Judy Stern.
Married for 42 years, Stephen and Lois Wexler met at a social function in 1969, when she was just two years out of Miami Norland Senior High School. Five years older, Stephen Wexler was a graduate of Miami Beach High.
For many years, Mr. Wexler ran a window installation business, but he was also a fulltime supporter of his wife’s career in public service, and worked behind the scenes as shewas elected to serve 12 years on the county school board and to the commission.
“He was a gentle, loving, kind man who will always be remembered,” said Lois Wexler.
Semi-retired, Mr. Wexler spent his spare time on hobbies that included photography, gardening and exploring nature, and with his family, said Stern.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters Cathy Schwartz and Genie Mancini, and two grandsons, Braden and Logan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 3201 NW 72nd Ave., Hollywood.
