No decision on accepting bowl bid

- Michael Casagrande

CORAL GABLES— If Miamio pts to self-impose abowl ban, it doesn’t appear the decision will be announced on last year’s schedule. Hurricanes coach Al Golden said no decision had been made by Sunday afternoon. He had a brief conversation with athletics director Blake Jameson Sunday, but no verdict was delivered. No timetable for a decisionwas discussed.

Ayear ago and just a few months into the investigation, Miami announced its plans to forgo a bowl appearance after beating USF and with one regular-season game left to play. The Hurricanes took a 24-17 beating from Boston College aweek later to finish the season 6-6.

“I don’t think there’s any good time, to be honest with you,” Golden said. “Looking back at last year, it was all difficult right until the end and there’s no question that had an impact on our motivation, our effectiveness and how sharp we were in that game.

But there’s a little more on the line when Miami’s season ends this Saturday. The Hurricanes could win its first ACC football title of any kind with the Coastal Division on the line. Sunday was different from last year from the beginning. Players were told the morning after the sixth win in 2011, but there were no such meetings Sunday.

Miami’s No. 23-ranked women’s basketball team fell 79-67 to visiting Tennessee Sunday afternoon. The No. 24 Lady Vols led by as many as 27 before Miami cut the lead in the closing minute. Next football game: vs. Duke, 12:30p.m. Saturday, TBA Game-day hashtag: #ssum
