Hawks eyeing Van Gundy

-

The Hawks are making an aggressive push to hire former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy and will try to sign free agent center

Dwight Howard, Yahoo Sports reported.

Yahoo reported that Hawks general manager Danny Ferry has been in contact with Van Gundy, but the two have not met in person.

Phil Jackson’s decision to return to the NBA is contingent on the resolution of the Kings sale, ESPN.com reported. Jackson, winner of 11NBA titles as coach of the Bulls and Lakers, has expressed interest in taking a front office job for a team. Jackson reportedly wants to wait and see if the Kings will b e sold to a Seattle group led by investor Chris Hansen.

ESPN.com also reported that the Maloof family has a “backup” plan to sell 20 percent of the franchise to Hansen and continue to operate the team instead of selling to a group that would keep the team in Sacramento should the sale of the franchise to the Seattle group fall through.
