Social media is a boon for coaches

- Matt Murschel

While college coaches try to limit how much their players post on potentially embarrassing comments on Twitter, many recognize social media can boost their programs. Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and UCLA’s Jim Mora Jr. are just two recent examples of college coaches who are turning to social media to interact with their respective fan bases.

On Tuesday, the 45-year-old Gundy began a program where he will answer approximately three questions per day using his Twitter account — @CoachGundy. Fans only need to tweet their questions using the #AskGundy hashtag. According to the school, the Cowboys coach plans to answer the questions every day for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Mora has been taking to YouTube to answer some questions. The 51-year-old Mora has been using his Twitter account—@UCLACoachMora— to seek questions from fans. He instructed them to send questions using the hashtag #AskUCLA Coach Mora. The second-year coach then records his answers and posts them onYouTube.com.

Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, will host its first-ever college football game. Southeast Missouri State and Southern Illinois will continue their longtime rivalry when the two schools meet on Sept. 21.

Yankee Stadium has hosted several neutral-site games with Army and Notre Dame as well as the Pinstripe Bowl, while Wrigley Field hosted a game between Northwestern and Illinois in 2011.
