Broward College is one of three Florida colleges sharing a $5 million federal grant to help employers, organized labor, nonprofits, local governments and educational institutions expand apprenticeships.

The U.S. Department of Labor grant will help increase apprenticeship programs in health care, information technology and manufacturing, including construction/ trades occupations.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is leading the Florida Apprenticeship consortium and is working with Broward College and St. Petersburg College. Broward College’s share of the grant is $1.15 million.

The grant will help close a skills gap and support the growth of in-demand industries, said Broward College President J. David Armstrong Jr.
