AROUND THE HORN

Red Sox: Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval will miss the rest of the season after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder on Tuesday. He is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2017 season. Sandoval reported to spring training visibly overweight, then lost his starting job to Travis Shaw.

Orioles: Shortstop J.J. Hardy was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Orioles because of a hairline fracture in his left foot. Hardy is expected to miss four to six weeks. The three-time Gold Glove winner said he has no idea when he might return. The injury occurred Sunday when Hardy fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning against the White Sox.

White Sox: Left-hander John Danks is out after a 10-year run in Chicago, and Erik Johnson will be promoted on Thursday to start against the Red Sox. Looking to build on their 18-8 start, the White Sox decided they had to cut Danks and search for a more reliable option at the back end of their rotation. The White Sox are responsible for the remaining portion of Danks’ $14.25 million salary this year, a little more than $11.7 million when he is designated for assignment on Thursday.

Reds: The Reds have activated left-hander John Lamb off the disabled list to start Tuesday night’s game against the Giants. Scheduled starter Jon Moscot is still having soreness in his nonthrowing shoulder. Lamb made 10 starts for the Reds last season, going 1-5 with a 5.80 ERA. Moscot (0-2) dislocated his left shoulder last June in a collision on the bases.

Rangers: Catcher Bobby Wilson was traded from the Tigers back to the Rangers for minorleague pitcher Chad Bell. Wilson, 33, batted .154 in five games for the Tigers. In five minor-league seasons, Bell was 32-28 with a 3.66 ERA with 463 strikeouts in 576 innings.

Tigers: The Tigers activated catcher James McCann from the 15-day disabled list.
