Siemian forced to sit out Sunday
Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian will sit out Sunday’s road game against the Jaguars, meaning rookie Paxton Lynch will get his second start.
Siemian had hoped to return to practice Friday, but the training staff put him right back in his walking boot and informed coach Gary Kubiak the second-year pro was a nogo against the Jaguars.
“I think it’s still a day-today process,” Kubiak said. “When we tried to get him going a little bit today, we realized it was time to go ahead and make a decision (to start Lynch).”
Siemian suffered a sprained left foot last week against the Chiefs. McClain suspended: Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain was suspended indefinitely for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The suspension is McClain’s third since the end of the 2014 season. He was suspended the first 10 games this season for a substance-abuse violation after sitting out the first four games in 2015. Packers questionable: The Packers have listed injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers and linebacker Clay Matthews as questionable for their game against the Texans.
Rodgers tweaked his left hamstring Monday night during the Packers’ 27-13 win over the Eagles, while Matthews hurt his shoulder following a blindside block by Eagles tackle Allen Barbre.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy has said that Rodgers and Matthews are expected to play, but they were limited in practice. Players fined: Chiefs safety Eric Berry and Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson were fined $24,309 by the league for helmet-tohelmet hits last weekend.
Berry made direct contact with Broncos backup running back Kapri Bibbs in the first quarter of the Chiefs’ 30-27 overtime victory. Bibbs left the game to be evaluated for a concussion but later returned.
Jackson’s hit on the Chargers’ Dontrelle Inman came in the fourth quarter of the Texans’ 21-13 loss and knocked the wide receiver’s helmet off after a 25-yard catch.
Panthers backup QB Derek Anderson was fined $12,154 for yelling at an official from the sideline and drawing an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty. Linebacker A.J. Klein was docked $9,115 for a facemask penalty.
