After a three-vehicle crash Sunday night in Tamarac, authorities said Michael Doheny was the only driver who left a car without help from first responders.

He didn’t stick around, according to a probable cause affidavit, and instead led deputies on a foot chase before he was arrested.

Broward deputies said Doheny, 29, was responsible for the crash that totaled three cars and sent two motorists to Broward Health Medical Center.

The Pembroke Pines man faces 10 criminal counts, according to the affidavit, including driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and failure to remain at an accident involving serious bodily injury.

Deputies said Doheny was driving a BMW X6 SUV and speeding, possibly twice the speed limit of 40 mph, around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday.

The BMW hit the back of a Toyota Avalon driven by Immacula Bernard along the 5100 block of Rock Island Road, causing the Toyota to fly over the median and strike an oncoming Buick LeSabre.

The Buick, driven by Melrose Parkinson, came to rest in a ditch while the Toyota rolled onto its side.

The BMW also flipped over in the crash but landed on its tires. Doheny unbuckled his seat belt and ran off, according to the affidavit, and a deputy found him hiding in some bushes.

Deputies say they arrested Doheny, who reportedly smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words, after a foot chase. He refused to take a blood alcohol test while at the hospital.

Doheny told a deputy that he ran from the crash because he was unsure what to do when people tried to help, according to the affidavit.

Parkinson and Bernard were each extracted from their cars and transported to Broward Health Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening, according to the Broward Sheriff ’s Office.

As of Monday afternoon, Doheny was held on $35,200 bond at the Broward Jail.
