Carlson in for Kelly on Fox; Van Susteren lands spot at MSNBC

- — Associated Press

Fox News Channel says that veteran pundit Tucker Carlson will replace Megyn Kelly in the network’s coveted 9 p.m. time slot sandwiched between Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity.

The network also said Thursday that Martha MacCallum will move into Carlson’s 7 p.m. time slot, at least temporarily. She will host a show called “The First 100 Days” to coincide with the beginning of the Trump administration.

Carlson, once a host of “Crossfire” on CNN, replaced Greta Van Susteren in Fox’s lineup this fall, and the network has been pleased with his ratings.

Kelly announced Tuesday that she is leaving Fox to go to NBC News, where she’ll host a daytime talk show and a weekend newsmagazine. Her last Fox show is Friday.

Meanwhile, MSNBC says it has hired Susteren to host a daily, Washington-based news program at the dinner hour.

Just like Carlson, Susteren completes the cable news hat trick: hosting shows on CNN, Fox and MSNBC. Her show will air at 6 p.m.

A lawyer, Van Susteren got her start in television for CNN analyzing O.J. Simpson’s trial, and that evolved into a regular role. After more than a decade at Fox, she left abruptly in late summer following a financial disagreement, saying Fox no longer felt like home.

MSNBC had an open time slot following the end of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s political show.
