FAU picks up commitments

-

Florida Atlantic picked up a commitment from Cardinal Gibbons senior cornerback Diashun Moss earlier this week, the first pledge added since the Owls hired new coach Lane

Kiffin last month. Moss, a two-star recruit according to 247 Sports, visited FAU last weekend. He is listed at 5-foot-10 1⁄2 and 166 pounds.

“Coach Kiffin has surrounded FAU with the best coaches you’ll find in college football and they’re focused on taking FAU to the next level and I’m excited to be a part of building that dynasty,” Moss tweeted.

Johnson has already enrolled at the university after signing out of East Mississippi Community College. Johnson signed with the Owls the day after Kiffin was announced as FAU’s coach, but the previous staff (primarily former offensive coordinator Travis Trickett) did most of the legwork with his recruitment.

A pair of junior college defensive ends also announced their commitment to FAU later: Tim Bonner and Ernest Bagner.

Bonner, 6-5 and 225 pounds, played last season at East Mississippi Community College after transferring from Louisville. He redshirted at Louisville and has three years of eligibility once he arrives in Boca Raton.

Bonner recorded 37 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries for East Mississippi CC, the same junior college that Johnson attended.

Bagner, at 6-5 and 235 pounds, spent the past two seasons at Riverside City College in California. He had 29 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and six sacks last season.

Bonner and Bagner will help fill the void left by former defensive end Trey

Hendrickson, the program’s all-time leader in sacks, tackles for loss, forced fumbles, yards from sacks and yards from tackles for loss.

Also, Mississippi quarterback recruit Jack Walker (Madison Central) decommitted from FAU over the weekend, he announced on Twitter.

Walker visited Georgia State recently, where Trickett now works. He becomes the second Owls quarterback pledge to decommit since Kiffin was hired. Justice McCoy (New Orleans St. Augustine) switched his commitment from FAU to Colorado State in December.
