Super Sunday delivery
Does the Super Bowl count as a holiday?
Apparently it does. Everybody’s having a party.
Footballloving consumers will spend about $14.1 billion, or $75 each, when the Atlanta Falcons face the New England Patriots today, according to a National Retail Federation survey. For comparison, we’ll spend more than $18 billion on Valentines Day, estimates the NRF.
About 80 percent of that budget will go for food, with 45 million people hosting Super Bowl parties.
If you need cheap eats for the big bash, McDonald’s is delivering. Literally.
Big Macs are going mobile in South Florida with Uber-EATS, the on-demand meal delivery service.
McDonald’s is testing the delivery in Florida at more than 130 Broward and Miami-Dade restaurants, plus 55 Orlando and 30 Tampa Bay locations. Delivery is not available in Palm Beach County.
Try the service today and get a 40-piece Chicken McNuggets dropped at your door for $7.99. If that doesn’t float your boat, Uber-EATS also delivers from 100 restaurants in South Florida.
Place orders via the free mobile app or at Ubereats.com.
While stuffing our faces today, we’ll also be swilling 51 million cases of beer.
So, if you party too hearty, don’t drive drunk. Instead, arrive alive with a designated driver, call an Uber or, as a last resort, get a free tow home using AAA’s Tow to Go program. The free public service, offering over 10 holiday weekends this year, is available through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Call 855-286-9246 and a tow truck will deliver up to two people and a vehicle home safely with no questions asked. The service is confidential.
The program, a partnership between AAA, Budweiser and the Auto Club Group Traffic Safety Foundation, is open to everyone, with no AAA membership required. Free tows
are based on availability of call volumes and trucks.
More than 10,000 people were killed in crashes in 2015, according to the latest data compiled from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
AAA encourages responsible celebrations with a free 20-page “Great Pretenders Party Guide,” (download at SunSentinel.com/ PartyGuide). It offers food and alcohol-free drink recipes from Five-Diamond AAA resorts.
It also offers tips on how to host a safe party by encouraging carpooling; having guests turn in car keys upon arrival; serving protein-rich, starchy foods along with nonalcoholic drinks and coffee; and offering to let impaired guests sleep over or driving them home yourself.
