FORT LAUDERDALE — Hallandale High won the final event of the night, the 4x400 relay, to secure the BCAA boys track championship on a windy Friday at Dillard High School.

Peter Anderson, Calvin Golson, Amari Johnson and Zaemione Jones combined to run a 3:17.68 for Hallandale. The Chargers edged Miramar — fourth in the 4x400 — for the team title, 100-89. It marks the first time Hallandale has won the event. Blanche Ely placed third and St. Thomas Aquinas was fourth.

Junior Milton Ingraham was a double-winner for Hallandale. Ingraham won the discus with a toss of 160-09 and took the shot put in 53-01.50. He said he was not happy with his discus performance because the wind affects how he throws.

“I pretty much used that anger and took it out in the shot,” said Ingraham, who set a personal best for the shot.

St. Thomas Aquinas dethroned Northeast High for the girls team championship. The Raiders finished with 124 points to win the 2017 crown. Hallandale narrowly edged Northeast for second place, 110-109, and Boyd Anderson placed fourth.

Juniors Terrence Horne Jr. and Jamal Walton led Miramar’s charge to second. Horne won the 100 meters in 10.85 and ran on the BCAA champion 4x100 team. Walton won the 200 (21.64) and 400 meters (46.39).

“It felt great coming off an injury,” said Horne, who has run the third-fastest 100 nationally (10.47 Tuesday at Hallandale) and is ranked second in the state. “I’ve been hurt for the first two track meets [sciatic nerve]. Now I am finally healthy and people get to see how fast I can actually run.”

Northeast sophomore Jan’Taijah Ford won both the girls 200 and 400 meters. Ford took the 200 in 24.70 and won the 400 in 55.35.

Hurricanes two-time defending state champion Damion Thomas dominated the field in the 110 hurdles. The Northeast senior won in 13.72.

Devin D’Oliveira was a doublewinner in the field events.

The Flanagan senior won the long jump in 17-08 and took the triple jump in 37-02.25. She also placed second in the 300 hurdles.

Plantation High senior Damian Lewis outdueled Boyd Anderson junior Avery Thornton to win the boys high jump. Lewis and Thornton made it over 6-6.75, but failed at 6-9.

Lewis, who has a Florida State offer, won the county title on fewer misses.

“The environment is more hyped up and is more intense,” Lewis said of Friday’s conditions compared to those at the qualifier. “Every time I’m in an intense situation, I show out.”

Thornton (21-06.25) also placed third in the long jump, won by Deerfield Beach senior Eldine Dorvil (21-07.25). Cypress Bay sophomore Isabella Matos won the girls Adaptive (wheel chair) 200 and 800 races and the shot put.
