Jimmy Butler had 30 points and nine rebounds, and the Bulls outlasted the Celtics 106-102 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round series Sunday in Boston on an emotional night for grieving Celtics star Isaiah Thomas.

Playing a day after his 22-year-old sister, Chyna Thomas, was killed in a car accident in their home state of Washington, Thomas led the top-seeded Celtics with 33 points.

Butler scored 23 points in the second half. Bobby Portis finished with 19 for the Bulls.

Al Horford had 19 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Celtics.

Game 2 is Tuesday night in Boston.

Kevin Durant had 32 points and 10 rebounds in his Warriors playoff debut, Stephen Curry scored 29 points, and the top seed in the Western Conference withstood a sensational day by Trail Blazers duo CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard in the opener of a first-round series in Oakland, Calif.

McCollum scored a playoff career-best 41 points and Lillard had 34, but the Warriors made the crucial big plays on both ends down the stretch. The Trail Blazers were without center Jusuf Nurkic, who’s still recovering from a nondisplaced fracture in his right leg.

Draymond Green had 19 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and five blocked shots for the Warriors.

John Wall scored a playoff career-high 32 points and Markieff Morris added 21 in his playoff debut to pace the Wizards in an Eastern Conference first-round series opener in Washington.

Wall scored 15 points in the third quarter and finished with 14 assists. Morris, in his first postseason action after 448 regular-season games, caught fire early in the second half to push the Wizards ahead.

Center Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with a left knee hyperextension and bone contusion after his collision 17 seconds into the Jazz’s playoff opener against the Clippers on Saturday night.

The Jazz said there was no timetable yet for Gobert’s return, but the fourth-year player from France told ESPN he hopes to be back during the series.
