Two Broward teachers accused of child abuse
Boynton Beach police have arrested two Broward schoolteachers on child abuse charges, records show.
They were arrested Monday after bruises were found on a 9-year-old girl who told authorities she was beaten at a residence, according to an arrest report.
According to the police report, a girl told the woman who picked her up from aftercare in Broward County that she was beaten the night before by Stephanie Garcia, 33, and Delvin Randolph, 36, who share the same Boynton Beach address. The caretaker “observed obvious bruising on the front of both of [her] legs,” according to the report.
The child told police she was struck in the thighs. The relationship of the adults to the girl was redacted from the report.
Broward School District officials said Garcia was first hired in 2005 and worked as a teacher’s aide and most recently as a teacher at South Plantation High since 2009.
The school’s website identifies her as Stephanie Del RioGarcia, an “exceptional student education” teacher.
Randolph also was hired in 2005 as a substitute teacher and has been a social sciences teacher at South Plantation High, Margate Middle, and since 2012 at Everglades High in Miramar. The school’s website identifies him as a geography teacher.
“Both individuals are still in the classroom, pending final adjudication,” said district spokeswoman Tracy Clark.
Neither Garcia nor Randolph could be reached for comment.
