Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting last month, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.

They are Markell Javon Lucas, 21, and Darrell Brooks, 27, both of Fort Lauderdale, police said.

The shooting happened in a parking lot at about 7:30 a.m. on April 19.

Two men got out of a vehicle in a parking lot in the 3200 block of West Davie Boulevard. The two shooting suspects, in another vehicle, went by the men and yelled “derogatory terms” at them, police said.

The two men then started walking toward a plaza but as they did, the other vehicle returned and sped by “extremely” close to them, throwing objects at the two men, according to the report.

The two men walked back to their vehicle and tried to leave. Shortly after, one of the shooting suspects got out of the car and opened fire, police said.

The bullets pierced the car several times but neither man in the vehicle was hurt, police said.

It’s unclear whether the two pairs of men knew each other.

The arrest Wednesday violated Lucas’ probation that he was placed on after two burglary arrests.

Lucas was booked into Broward County Jail and faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation charges. Charges for Brooks were not immediately available.

Police ask anyone with information on the shooting to call Detective Leann Swisher at 954-828-4007.
