Florida Atlantic and coach Lane Kiffin appear to be building for their future … their distant, distant future.

According to multiple media reports, Kiffin offered seventh-grader Kaden Martin a scholarship on Monday morning. Martin, a 13-year-old quarterback, is the son of USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin.

Tee Martin used to work for Kiffin at USC as his receivers coach, and was a former Tennessee quarterback.

The move grabbed eyeballs around college football Monday afternoon, but is unlikely to mean anything tangible for the university. Kaden will graduate high school in 2022. Kiffin’s fiveyear contract at FAU runs out after the 2021 season.

This is the latest splash on the recruiting trail Kiffin has executed this year.

In January, he infamously starred in a low-energy hype video that was ridiculed nationally. In February, he helped the Owls haul in the conference’s best recruiting class. In March, he was sued after allegedly reneging on a job offer in order to land a prized recruit.

FAU’s current recruiting class for 2018 has just two commitments, both who pledged during former coach Charlie Partridge’s reign. Northeast safety Malik Occuir and Miami Northwestern quarterback Chatarius “Tutu” Atwell are the only commitments.
