Hinch took him out for a pinch runner. When Altuve came to the bench, Hinch learned the problem was Altuve’s special pink Mother's Day cleats, which were too tight and made his foot fall asleep. Altuve was in the lineup Monday night for the start of a series against the Marlins.

Rangers: OF Carlos Gomez will miss four to six weeks with a strained right hamstring. He left Sunday’s game after grabbing his hamstring seconds after crossing home plate with for a run.

Indians: Slumping slugger Edwin Encarnacion was out of the cleanup spot for the first time this season. Encarnacion batted fifth instead of fourth Monday night at home against the Rays. He hit cleanup in the first 36 games. Encarnacion, who signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Indians, entered Monday hitting .206 with five homers and 11 RBIs.

Yankees: The ceremony to retire Derek Jeter’s No. 2 jersey and dedicate a plaque in Monument Park was the most-viewed program in the New York area during its time period and the most-watched non-game in the history of the YES Network, which launched in 2002. During the quarter-hour of Jeter’s speech, 952,000 tuned in.

Giants: The team placed OF Hunter Pence on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The move is retroactive to Saturday, when Pence came off the bench to play two late innings during a 17-inning win against Cincinnati. An MRI exam revealed the strain.

Diamondbacks: CF A.J. Pollock landed on the DL with a “grade one” right groin strain. No timetable was set for his return but Pollock said it is not a significant injury.
