Second man arrested in fatal shooting
Two men who are romantically involved are accused of killing a man who hired one of them for sex early one morning in Broward County, according to court documents.
Ferris Finley, 43, was shot three times about 3 a.m. on April 11 when his GMC pickup was parked in the 2700 block of Northwest Eighth Street near Fort Lauderdale. Darius Davontae Slade, 21, of Lauderhill was wearing a tight dress, wig and carrying a purse while working as a prostitute, according to police reports. The neighborhood is just south of West Sunrise Boulevard and west of Interstate 95.
Slade told detectives that Finley hired him to perform a sex act.
He was inside Finley’s truck when his boyfriend, Larry Bostic, 38, opened the driver’s-side door and opened fire, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Finley’s body had gunshots in his left side torso, upper right chest and right bicep. His silver jewelry, $75 in cash and wallet with credit cards were still on his person.
Detectives interviewed other male sex workers in the neighborhood, witnesses and reviewed security videos from area properties, court records show.
Bostic, who had no known address, was arrested April 21 and has entered a not-guilty plea in his case.
Bostic’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Erin Veit, said by email, “At this point all we have is the arrest affidavit, which is comprised of nothing more than hearsay and contradictory he said/she said statements from witnesses with serious credibility issues of their own.”
On May 11, a grand jury indicted Slade and Bostic.
Slade was arrested Tuesday.
He and Bostic are being held in a county jail without bond until trial; the Broward State Attorney’s Office has charged them with premeditated murder.
