Three Marlins are picked as All-Star ambassadors.
MIAMI — Christian Yelich and Martin Prado won’t be All-Stars this year, but you’ll have a chance to see them during the festivities anyway.
Miami Marlins stars Yelich, Prado and Giancarlo Stanton — who will defend his Home Run Derby crown and is a safe bet to make the All-Star team — were named All-Star ambassadors on Wednesday.
They join Marlins legends Jeff Conine and Tony Pérez, who were previously named ambassadors. They will represent the team in various All-Star festivities.
“I’m proud of being associated with Miami and the All-Star Game and all the excitement that comes with it,” Yelich said. “I’m really excited for the city and all the people to get to experience what that’s all about.”
Highlighting Yelich and Prado’s duties will be appearances at FanFest on July 10-11. (During the earlier FanFest days, they’ll be with the Marlins in San Francisco.) As ambassadors, they’ll also appear in various promotions and do various interviews.
“I’m representing, from my side, the Latino community and my teammates, my team,” said Prado, the Marlins’ unofficial captain.
Also Wednesday, MLB added four names to the 2017 All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game rosters: NFL Hall of Famer and former Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor, actor Jamie Foxx, and former MLB All-Stars Bernie Williams and Fred Lynn.
The softball game will be the back half of All-Star Sunday’s doubleheader, which starts with the Futures Game.
