Miller undergoes vascular surgery

-

Bears tight end Zach

Miller had urgent vascular surgery Sunday night to repair a torn popliteal artery after he dislocated his knee during a loss to the Saints earlier in the day.

The Bears issued a statement Monday that surgeons from the University Medical Center New Orleans completed successful surgery to stabilize the injury. Miller, 33, remains at the hospital for further evaluation.

Bears coach John Fox said one of the concerns that comes with such an injury is that doctors might have needed to amputate Miller’s leg had they not been able to repair the artery. But he said the doctors “feel good about where he is now, as it relates to that.”

“Right now the report is they’re obviously going to take a while for it to make sure it remains good, but he’s got good pulse in his lower leg, as well as has good feeling,” Fox added. “His foot is warm, which is a good sign. Not that he’s out of the woods by any stretch, but it’s as good as could be expected at this point. So we’d appreciate if you keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Fox declined to address what the recovery process is like from an injury this serious, indicating the main focus Monday was the vascular issue.

Fox said Miller will likely remain in New Orleans with his family for a while.

Miller landed awkwardly in the end zone while attempting a catch that was originally ruled a touchdown but overturned upon review. He was carted off the field and then rushed to the hospital.

ESPN reported that there was orthopedic damage to the knee.

The injury was another tough break for Miller, who missed the final six games of the 2016 season with a broken right foot.

Flacco looks good: Joe

Flacco is recovering nicely from the concussion he sustained during Thursday night’s win over the Dolphins, and Ravens coach

John Harbaugh said “there’s a good chance” the quarterback will play Sunday against the Titans.

Flacco sustained a concussion and a gash that required stitches after absorbing a late, high hit from Dolphins linebacker Kiko

Alonso. Flacco was on the ground at the end of a protective slide when Alonso slammed into him.

The second-quarter tackle caused Flacco to lose his helmet and left him dazed. He was subsequently escorted to the locker room and didn’t return.

Harbaugh said Monday that “symptoms are zero” for Flacco. But he will remain on concussion protocol at least until practice Wednesday. Seahawks land tackle: The Seahawks solidified an area of concern by reaching agreement to acquire veteran left tackle Duane

Brown from the Texans for cornerback Jeremy Lane and two draft picks.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider confirmed the sides reached agreement on the deal, but the deal hadn’t been fully finalized yet.

Brown made his season debut for the Texans on Sunday against the Seahawks after a lengthy holdout in search of a new contract.
