Miami’s football team receives a choice defensive commitment and a transfer player.

The University of Miami football team appears to have added one player who may be able to help right away and got a commitment from another who may arrive on campus in 2020.

The Hurricanes picked up a transfer from former Tennessee offensive lineman Venzell Boulware, and later Wednesday, Bradenton IMG Academy defensive end Tre’Von Riggins added a fifth commitment to UM’s 2020 recruiting class.

Boulware tweeted a picture in a green Miami jacket with the caption “The Marathon don’t stop.” He also retweeted a 247 Sports story that first reported his transfer to the Hurricanes. UM has not yet officially announced the move.

Boulware would bolster a Hurricanes offensive line that saw improvement last season in its second year under position coach Stacy Searels. Boulware, a 6-foot-3, 306-pound redshirt sophomore, is eligible to play for UM for two seasons and won’t have to sit out a year so long as he graduates from Tennessee in May, which he plans to do, according to the 247 report.

UM will lose seniors in starting left tackle Kc McDermott and left guard Trevor Darling off its offensive line but returns the other three starters in center Tyler Gauthier, right tackle Tyree St. Louis and right guard Navaughn Donaldson, who earned ACC Freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America earlier this week.

Boulware, who started one game in 2017 on Sept. 23 against UMass, first announced he would be leaving the Volunteers on Oct. 2 after not starting against Georgia two days earlier. He started three games in 2016 and was redshirted in 2015.

A four-star recruit according to Rivals and ESPN, Boulware chose Tennessee over Ohio State as a recruit out of Union City (Georgia) Creekside where he was also recruited by coach Mark Richt when he was leading the Bulldogs.

Riggins, who just completed his sophomore season of high school, is already projected to be an elite Class of 2020 recruit as a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end.

He is rated four stars and the fourth-best strongside defensive end in his class by 247, which ranks UM’s 2020 class a very early No. 1 thus far.

Riggins’ IMG teammates in safety Avantae Williams and receiver Jermain Burton also 2020 Hurricanes commits along with receivers Leonard Manuel from Ocala Vanguard, a five-star recruit, and Hialeah Champagnat Catholic’s Marc Britt.
