When Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez comes to South Florida for a whirlwind of concerts during a break from the mega-hit “Hamilton,” one of the things she is most looking forward to is singing with theater and chorus students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

“Their movement has inspired me, so I wanted to see what can I do,” Gonzalez, who also starred in “In The Heights,” said from her home in New York City. “I wanted to give back to these kids who have done so much to lift up this country. Gonzalez adds, “We want to sing some songs from ‘In The Heights’ and a couple of songs from my album. And ‘Helpless,’ it’s a beautiful song from ‘Hamilton.’ We’re singing about five songs. You know, a lot of these students who are speaking up are in theater. They’re theater students.”

The California-born actor plays Angelica Schuyler in “Hamilton,” which was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. She also starred in Miranda’s “In The Heights,” creating the role of Nina Rosario. Gonzalez has also appeared on the Great White Way in “Aida” and “Wicked.” She appeared on television in ABC’s “Quantico” and has a recurring role in CBS’ “Madame Secretary.”
