Bike-to-Work Week starts today in West Palm Beach

The city of West Palm Beach invites residents and tourists to participat­e in its fifth annual Bike-to-Work Week today through Friday.

Defy those Monday back-to-work blues by joining the program’s first event, Bike-to-Work Week Kickoff Day, set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the City Commons, 401 Clematis St. Representa­tives of West Palm Beach’s Office of Sustainabi­lity, SkyBike and South Florida Commuter Services will be on-hand for safety informatio­n and giveaways.

During Biketo-Vote, from 7a.m. to 7 p.m., residents are encouraged to bike from their homes or offices to their local precincts to vote in the city’s general election. For election informatio­n, visit wpb.org/Department­s/ City-Clerk/Election-Informatio­n.

Take in a movie at the Bike-In-Movie, set for 6 p.m. at Subculture Coffee, 509 Clematis St. There will be a special screening of “Bicycle” by filmmakers Pip Piper and Michael Clifford.

A Bike-to-Work Day Celebratio­n will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at West Palm Beach City Hall, 401 Clematis St. Mayor Jeri Muoio is expected to greet riders as they arrive. The event will feature giveaways. Ride solo or with a group from the following locations:

Wednesday: Friday: From the Mangonia Park Tri-Rail Station,

1415 45th St., ride with Palm Beach County Commission­er Hal Valeche with the Palm Beach Transporta­tion Planning Agency Departure time: 7:30 a.m.

From South Olive Community Center,

345 Summa St., ride with Friederike Mittner, the city’s historic preservati­on planner. Departure time: 7:30 a.m.

1760 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., ride with Tara Moreno, the city’s Extension Services librarian. Departure time: 7:45 a.m.

Today to Thursday, participan­ts can get a free coffee at the C Street Cafe, 319 Clematis St.

Bike-to-Work Week is sponsored by the city of West Palm Beach, Florida Department of Transporta­tion, South Florida Commuter Services, West Palm Beach Downtown Developmen­t Authority, YMCA and Palm Beach Transporta­tion Planning Agency.
