Expect road closures near Boca Raton rally
A March for Our Lives rally will take place today in Boca Raton, drawing a crowd and road closures.
The Boca rally, which is expected to draw at least 2,500 people, is among the hundreds of demonstrations planned across the country. Their aim: to boost school safety and push for tougher gun-control legislation.
Participants can register from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the baseball fields behind Boca Raton City Hall at Crawford Boulevard and Palmetto Park Road. The first 1,000 people to show will get a T-shirt and water bottle.
There will be a march that starts at 10:30 a.m. from City Hall. It’ll head to Mizner Park Amphitheater at 590 Plaza Real, where there will be speakers and performances starting at noon. It’s expected to last until 2 p.m.
Roads near Boca Raton City Hall at 201 W. Palmetto Park Road will be closed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the march route.
The route will go north on Crawford Boulevard, turn right on Northwest Fourth Diagonal and run south on Northwest Boca Raton Boulevard. Then it will head east on Northwest Second Street and turn north on Plaza Real toward the amphitheater off Federal Highway, just north of Palmetto Park Road.
The southbound lanes in Mizner Park will be closed to traffic. Drivers are asked to use Mizner Boulevard or Northwest Fourth Avenue as detours.
Guest speakers will include high schoolers, and Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie. Food trucks will be available.
Those going to the rally are urged to carpool.
There will be free parking available at: Boca Raton City Hall; Boca Raton Community Center, 150 Crawford Blvd.;
the Downtown Library, 400 NW Second Ave.;
the Boca Raton Building Administration, 200 NW Second Ave.;
Mizner Park Amphitheater has four free parking garages, metered street parking and paid valet services at the restaurants.
