RHP Trevor Richards (0-1, 4.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) vs. RHP Jhoulys Chacín (0-1, 5.60, 1.92): In his third career start, Richards showed what he is capable of in holding the Pirates to two hits in seven shutout innings. This time his fastball command was on, which enabled him to get ahead in counts and use his changeup effectively. He got nine outs on grounders, and few balls were struck hard. … In four starts, Chacin has gotten to the fifth inning only once, and in that one he gave up six runs in 5 2⁄3 innings against the Cardinals. Control has been a problem as he has walked 10 to go with 11 strikeouts in 17 2⁄3 innings.
Saturday – RHP Jose Urena (0-3, 5.57 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) vs. LHP Brent Suter (1-2, 4.87, 1.38); Sunday – LHP Caleb Smith (0-2, 6.89, 1.98) vs. RHP Junior Guerra (1-0, 0.82, 0.91) GONZALEZ GETS CALL Merandy Gonzalez, one of the Marlins’ top pitching prospects, was recalled from Double-A Jacksonville and lefty Chris O’Grady was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. Gonzalez, 22, was acquired from the Mets in the trade for A.J. Ramos last July. He has given up five runs in 10 innings over two starts with Jacksonville. He’ll work out of the bullpen for Miami. UPCOMING SERIES Monday-Wednesday, at Dodgers; April 27-29, vs. Rockies; April 30-May 2, Phillies
