Meet ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ stars at ice cream social.
A few rich Asians are in town to hype the new summer romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians,” and they’re doing it with free ice cream.
Actors Ken Jeong (“The Hangover” trilogy, ABC’s “Dr. Ken”), Nora Lum (aka rapper Awkwafina) and Nico Santos (NBC’s “Superstore”) will throw an ice cream social 2:30-4 p.m. today inside the Wynwood food hall 1-800-Lucky.
The first 100 guests queued up at Japanese ice creamery Taiyaki NYC Miami will receive a choice of the shop’s over-the-top Unicorn Taiyaki cone with rainbow sprinkles or the colorful Straight Outta Japan cone with a mochi stick. The base of both confections is the taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped cone filled with red bean paste and topped with exotic swirls of matcha and black sesame soft-serve.
Yes, when Hollywood celebrities hype movies in South Florida, we all win. Visitors at the ice cream social are also eligible to receive free gift cards, film swag and movie passes to “Crazy Rich Asians,” out Aug. 15 in theaters nationwide.
The John Chu-directed movie, based on the sametitled bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, follows a New Yorker (Constance Wu of ABC’s “Fresh off the Boat” fame) who travels with her boyfriend (Henry Golding) to a wedding in Singapore. There, she discovers that her companion is both a wealthy scion to one of the country’s most-respected families and one of its most sought-after bachelors.
