Dining limited at airport
I recently went to the Fort Lauderdale Airport to meet good friends that had a four-hour layover. We had planned on having dinner at the Southwest Terminal.
As it turns out, only ticketed passengers (which I was not) can have access to the numerous restaurants. The only thing we could all have access to was a coffee shop and bagel shop. We were told to order online through UberEats and it would be delivered to us, which we could not to do as we could not get a good WiFi connection to order.
We were so disappointed that we could not have a visit over dinner. It would benefit the airport to add a couple of full-service restaurants before the security checkpoint. I am sure there are many situations like ours. Offering restaurants to locals meeting passengers with layovers generates additional revenue and jobs as well. A South Florida 100 commentary on page 25A in Sunday’s edition was misattributed. The following statement was made by attorney Ian S. Seitel: “Florida prosecutors will be forced to reassess the way they determine whether or not they seek the death penalty in murder cases. Recently, a Broward jury rejected State Attorney Mike Satz’s plea for death for three convicted cop killers while a second jury spared the life of a man convicted of killing his stepdaughter and her mother. The new law requiring juries to unanimously find at least one aggravating factor and a second unanimous vote recommending death will make it more difficult to effectuate state-sanctioned death. This brings Florida more in line with other states that still have the death penalty and ensures that it will be utilized only in the worst of the worst murder cases.”
