Bill Nelson deserves Floridians’ support

- Steven Schneider, Deerfield Beach Thomas Heist, Pompano Beach

I find the political scene in Florida crazy. You have a senator who has always looked out for the average person of Florida — especially seniors — and a self-bought politician who spent the better part of eight years tearing down the state.

Gov. Rick Scott has only lately helped restore looking after the citizenry by adding funds to education, which he spent the first six years taking away and passing a halfxxxed gun bill which actually did nothing. Yet, here we are a few months from elections and the pundits have said it’s basically a tie. I have never donated directly to a political candidate until this year.

Sen. Bill Nelson deserves our respect and support. Gov. Scott deserves to be left behind. Speak out, Florida! there not a policy in place to have all doors locked while classes are in session?

When I went to school in Pennsylvania in the 1960s, all entrance doors were locked except the doors where the buses were dropping off students and the front office door for those who walked to school. These doors were monitored by teachers and office staff. Once everyone was in the building all doors were locked until the the end of the school day.

If this was in place, Mr. Cruz could not have entered the school. The only entrance during school hours was the front office door by ringing the main doorbell. In case of emergency, exiting the school was done from the inside through emergency exits.
