Owner heartsick after dog is stolen
Things went from bad to worse for a Davie man after someone stole mail from his mailbox and then returned two days later to steal Stella, his dog.
The saga began last week, Aug. 7, in the middle of the morning.
A neighbor’s security surveillance video just released by police shows a gold Chevrolet Impala slowly driving past a residence along the 4700 block of Southwest 66th Terrace.
A short time later it pulls partly into the driveway and a fellow with his hair in a man bun who is wearing baggy shorts and a loose T-shirt grabs items from the curbside mailbox and drives away.
Fast-forward two days. It’s about 8 a.m. Thursday when a
man wearing a lime-green reflective vest with two orange stripes, blue print shorts and reflective sunglasses on his cap shows up at the doorstep of Terrell Harris, who is not home.
The man, who police think is the man-bun-sporting mail thief, gets into the residence after about a minute – and then walks out with Stella, Harris’ dog.
Stella is an 8-month-old black and white female pit bull weighing 83 pounds with a seemingly gentle disposition. The video shows the dog thief, his sunglasses now pulled over his eyes, walking away with Stella, on a leash. She periodically sniffs the ground – as if going out for a routine walk.
The loss of Stella has left Harris, 34, devastated.
“What was taken was my heart,” Harris told WSVN-Ch. 7.
He has been putting up “Stolen Dog” posters showing Stella’s picture and offering a reward of $1,000. The posters ask people with information about Stella to call Harris at 754-779-4920.
“I haven’t been sleeping, I haven’t been eating. I haven’t been doing any of those things,” Harris told the station.
