Kodak Black out of jail

The hip-hop artist known as Kodak Black walked out of the Broward County Main Jail early Saturday.

While jailed since mid-January, he legally changed his birth name from Dieuson Octave to Bill K. Kapri and he earned his high school equivalency degree, his attorney Bradford Cohen said.

Black was arrested Jan. 18 after a video surfaced on Instagram showing him and several others allegedly smoking marijuana and brandishing a handgun in the presence of a child at a party in his Pembroke Pines home.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies said one of four guests had a marijuana joint in his mouth and was “inches from the infant’s face,” while a second man was rolling a joint and a third was playing with a Sig Sauer handgun “in a reckless manner,” according to an arrest report describing the video, which appeared on social media.

Black was on house arrest and felony probation for robbery and five counts of false imprisonment at the time. He also was Bill K. Kapri, better known as rapper Kodak Black, is greeted by a friend after being released from Broward County jail early Saturday. Born Dieuson Octave, he legally changed his name while in jail. on felony probation for being a delinquent/felon in possession of a gun and fleeing/eluding police.

Investigators had searched his home and found nearly 95 grams of cannabis in a bedroom closet, cash and a loaded magazine for a Glock handgun in a safe, ammunition and a 9 mm Beretta handgun — reported stolen in Tamarac — in his office, the arrest report said.

Black’s attorney argued the weapons and drugs could have belonged to others in the house. None of the other four men seen in the Instagram video were arrested, sheriff ’s officials said.

The 21-year-old performer still has legal problems out of state. He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Florence, South Carolina, in February 2016.
