Palm Beach Lakes holds off McArthur on last play
In a game that featured numerous miscues from both teams, including 26 penalties, Palm Beach Lakes’ defense made a pair of defensive stops in the final three minutes, highlighted by Jeshon Ingraham’s interception in the end zone on the final play of the game as the Rams escaped with a 6-3 victory.
After McArthur missed a game-tying field goal attempt with 1:10 to play, the Mustangs’ defense forced the Rams to punt with 49 seconds to play, giving McArthur one last opportunity.
However, T.J. Smith’s desperation heave into the end zone was picked off by Ingraham, sending the Rams into the regional semifinals in a rematch against Dwyer, who defeated the Rams 41-13 in the regular season.
Palm Beach Lakes (8-3) took a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter on Kevon Purnell’s 10-yard touchdown run.
The Rams opening touchdown drive was kept alive as the Rams converted a fourth-and-18 on Jalen Hall’s scramble for 18 yards.
The Rams were driving deep inside McArthur territory looking for a second score before Hall was intercepted in the end zone by the Mustangs’ Jerrold Pough.
