Capitals’ Wilson out with concussion

- News services

Capitals forward Tom Wilson sat out against the Coyotes on Thursday night after he suffered a concussion in Tuesday night’s game in Vegas.

Though he was at Gila River Arena with his teammates, Wilson didn’t participate in the morning skate, and Capitals coach Todd Reirden said he’s “day to day” and will continue on this road trip with the team. On a blindside hit from Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves on Tuesday night, Wilson’s helmet popped off and his head hit the ice as he dropped to the ground.

The Capitals had lost their previous two games, and between Wilson’s suspension and a slew of injuries, they haven’t had their full lineup available all season.

After he was suspended for 16 games, Wilson had eight goals and eight assists in his first 10 games back in the lineup, and the Capitals were 8-2-0 in that span.

Phil Kessel had two goals and two assists as the Penguins beat the Islanders 6-2 . ... Dylan Larkin scored on a breakaway at 2:48 of overtime as the Red Wings beat the Maple Leafs 5-4 on after blowing a three-goal lead . ... Hurricanes C Jordan Staal will be out indefinitely because of a concussion.
