Witness: Woman run over multiple times on I-95

- By Doug Phillips

A woman’s body was run over multiple times early Friday on Interstate 95, says a driver who was stunned other drivers didn’t pull over to the side of the highway.

The driver was among those who accidentally struck the body, he said. “Laying across the road was what looked to be a body, and I couldn’t react in time and I ran it over,” he said.

The driver, who spoke in front of a news camera about the crash, declined to provide his name. He said after he called 911, he saw other vehicles also run over the body, but only some stopped and stayed at the scene, like he did. “I can’t believe people can run over a body in the road and not stop,” he said.

The Florida Highway Patrol showed up at the crash site about 2 a.m., closing all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours at the Atlantic Boulevard exit.

After getting out of his car, the driver said he spoke to a motorcyclist who quickly rode away from the scene after indicating that the person in the road was a woman. Whether the motorcycle rider was involved in the crash wasn’t immediately known.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released details about the crash.
