Traffic flow will be limited through a major intersection in downtown Fort Lauderdale during the weekend.

The project that was originally scheduled for the weekend of Jan. 25-27 but heavy rain and cold weather caused the rescheduling.

The ongoing installation of a wastewater sewage pumping station at Broward Boulevard and Federal Highway will close several lanes from 8 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Monday, city officials said.

The lane closures are designed to minimize the inconvenience to regular traffic. Detours will be marked but motorists and pedestrians may want to avoid the congested area.

The closures include:

All eastbound lanes of Broward Boulevard, east of Federal Highway

Three eastbound lanes of Broward Boulevard, west of Federal Highway

Two westbound left turn lanes on Broward Boulevard, east of Federal Highway

One southbound left turn lane on Federal Highway, north of Broward Boulevard

Two right lanes of northbound Federal Highway, south of Broward Boulevard

The east crosswalk will be closed.

Access to business and residential parking areas and driveways should remain open through the construction zone, officials said.

The $3 million sewage pumping station project is designed to increase the downtown wastewater system’s capacity by one million gallons per day. It is nearly 70 percent complete, officials said.
