Long snapper Denney re-signs.
John Denney’s streak of playing in the most consecutive games for the Miami Dolphins will likely be extended.
The Dolphins resigned Denney, the team’s long snapper the past 14 seasons, to a oneyear contract on Friday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it’s likely somewhere in the neighborhood of the $1 million salary he earned last season.
The 6-foot-5, 242-pound Denney, one of the oldest players in the NFL at 40, has not missed a game in his 14 seasons.
He has appeared in 224 consecutive games since signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie in 2005 — by far a team record and the longest active streak in the NFL.
He trails only Hall-ofFame quarterback Dan Marino (242) on the Dolphins’ all-time list for games played.
Denney was a three-year starter at defensive end at Brigham Young (2002-04), but won the Dolphins’ job of long snapper over incumbent Ed Perry and has stuck through the regimes of coaches Nick Saban, Cam Cameron, Tony Sparano, Joe Philbin, Adam Gase — plus interim coaches Todd Bowles and Dan Campbell — and now Brian Flores.
Denney, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, had been scheduled to hit free agency next month.
His brother, Ryan Denney, was a defensive end for the Buffalo Bills (2002-09) and Houston Texans (2010).
