Madonna brings tour to Fillmore
Pop icon Madonna’s just-announced Madame X Tour, a slate of intimate theater performances, will include a stop at the Fillmore Miami Beach.
The tour of a “limited number” of North American cities will kick off Sept. 12 with seven nights at New York's 2,100-capacity BAM Howard Gilman Opera House at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, followed by multiple performances at the Chicago Theatre in October and the Wiltern in Los Angeles in November.
A statement on her website confirmed plans for multiple performances at the Fillmore Miami Beach, with specific dates for the concerts to be “announced soon.” For more information, visit Madonna.com.
Ticket requests are being accepted for North American concerts, with registration through Friday, May 10, at Madonna.LiveNation.com.
Tickets will be priced from $60 to $760 (plus fees), and fans also can register at Madonna.com for the opportunity to purchase tickets at $10. There will be 10 $10 tickets available per show.
The Fillmore performance will mark Madonna’s first concerts near the city she used to live in since two sell-out Miami performances on her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour.
The singer has been teasing the tour in the last several weeks with the release of music from her album “Madame X,” set for release June 14.
On Saturday, she put out “I Rise,” a pulsating anthem that samples Parkland activist Emma Gonzalez’s “I call BS” speech. Her dance-pop mashup “Medellin,” co-written with Colombian singer Maluma, was released on April 17.
Other new songs on their way include “Crave,” a pop collaboration with rapper Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd, on May 10; the Jamaican dancehall vibe of “Future,” featuring Migos’ Quavo on May 17; and the defiantly torchy ballad “Dark Ballet” on June 7.
“Madame X” is a collaboration with longtime producer Mirwais, along with Grammy-winning hip-hop producer Mike Dean (Kanye West, Travis Scott) and the ubiquitous Diplo.
Every ticket purchased for the 2019 tour includes a CD of “Madame X.”
The album, which features Madonna paying homage to Mexican icon Frida Kahlo on the cover, finds the singer performing in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Her team has pitched the 15 songs on “Madame X” as a reflection of her time living in Lisbon, Portugal, over the past several years.
But Madonna’s affection for Latin music and culture has been a consistent theme, from her 1986 single “La Isla Bonita” through her starring role in the 1996 Evita Peron biopic “Evita.”
One of the highlights of her Rebel Heart Tour stop in Miami was a showstopping version of “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina,” which brought the entire arena to its feet for a sing-along.
