Free Apple and Microsoft camps for kids

Children can take a creative summer adventure at free Apple and Microsoft YouthSpark summer camps inside the computer retail stores.

Apple Camp: Go to Apple.com/today/camp to sign up to get an email reminder to enroll kids 8-12 when the program goes live. The free three-day workshops, held in July, will teach useful interactiv­e skills while broadening creative horizons.

Options include sessions to explore music, coding, moviemakin­g, or art and design. Each session is 90 minutes. Parents or guardians must accompany children at the workshops.

Options include making your own video game, Minecraft coding, boosting reading confidence, and computers and coding workshop for beginners ages 6 and up. The Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit Workshop for ages 8 and up is autism friendly. Or, learn how to program a moving model of a solar system, among other options.

Microsoft YouthSpark

Summer Camp: There are two-hour gaming, reading and coding camps, which will be held in May for children 8 and up. Each retail store offers different camps each month. Sign up at Microsoft.com/en-us/ store/locations/events-forstudent­s. Options include making your own video game, Minecraft coding, boosting reading confidence, and computers and coding workshop for beginners ages 6 and up. There also are STEM Saturdays workshops for parents and students ages 11 to 14.
