Owls add QB from Michigan
Florida Atlantic now has a quarterback in its 2020 recruiting class.
Dual-threat signal-caller Anthony Romphf, out of Southfield (Mich.) High School, announced his commitment to play at FAU with a video he posted on Twitter on Tuesday. FAU football coach Lane Kiffin retweeted it later.
According to 247 Sports, the 6-foot, 180-pound Romphf is a three-star prospect. He also had received offers from the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Kentucky and Louisville.
Bruce Feldman, a national college football reporter for Fox Sports and The Athletic, reacted to the news of the Owls pickup, tweeting: “This is a nice pick-up for # FAU & Lane Kiffin. Big recruiting win for [offensive coordinator] Charlie Weis Jr. to go into Michigan and get a dualthreat QB who runs 4.5 and has a lot of Big Ten offers.”
The addition to the 2020 class brings the Owls to three commitments after Miami Killian running back Frank Gore Jr., the son of the NFL and former Miami Hurricanes back by the same name, announced his pledge Friday. FAU also has a commitment from Miami Columbus offensive lineman Andre Lamas.
On May 20, the South Florida Sun Sentinel learned of dismissed Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois’ intention to transfer to FAU for a redshirt senior season this fall as a graduate student.
In the spring, Nick Tronti and Justin Agner led the quarterback battle as redshirt sophomore incumbent starter Chris Robison sat out the spring while suspended for a sexual battery allegation made against him in which no charges were filed.
