For your summer picnicking pleasure, Publix is putting whole subs on sale starting today.

The beloved grocery chain is putting all subs on sale for $5.99 June 13-19. That’s a very tasty deal indeed since they usually cost $8.99.

Just think, you can have a cheap Chicken Tender Sub every single day for a week.

Or, mix it up and order a Chicken Cordon Bleu Sub. The hot sandwich is made with Tavern ham, rotisserie chicken, bacon, Swiss cheese slathered with

Dijon mustard-mayo. You pick the fixins.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page Are Publix Chicken Tender Subs On Sale? (yep, it’s real) gives an interesting account about how the famed Pub sub came to be. A Florida man named Dave Charls claims that he and a pal named Kevin convinced their friend Philip, who worked in the Publix deli, to put the hot tenders on a sub roll in 1997 or 1998.

“We had been buying the tenders and rolls for months separately because the people in the deli REFUSED to ring it up as a sub,” according to the Facebook post. The rest of the story is history.

Charls humbly gives all the credit for this most delicious of inventions to Kevin and Philip. “Those two are the two culinary geniuses who brought this creation to life.”

So, from the bottom of our hearts, Kevin and Philip, THANK YOU!

Is the story true? Who cares! The subs are delicious.

No matter what sub you like, here’s a hot tip: Skip the line (and there will be long ones) and go to Publix.com/Order to order ahead for easy pickup.
