Atlantic’s D-lineman Bryant chooses to attend Louisville

- By Adam Lichtenstein

One of Palm Beach County’s top rising seniors is headed north to continue his football career.

Atlantic 2020 defensive lineman Henry Bryant III committed to the Louisville Cardinals on Thursday night, announcing his choice on his Twitter account. “It felt like a home away from home,” Bryant said. “I just loved the atmosphere and people. Also, the coach is genuine. Just seems like a great fit.”

Bryant, a first-team allcounty selection and a Super 11 pick, had 60 tackles and 15 sacks as a junior. He had four fumble recoveries and, as a part-time fullback, scored a pair of touchdowns.

Bryant is rated a threestar prospect by 247Sports’ composite ranking. The site rates him the No. 57 defensive tackle and No. 633 prospect in the 2020 class.

Bryant chose Louisville over Duke, Kentucky and N.C. State among others.

The Atlantic senior will join another former Palm Beach County star on the defensive line — Palm Beach Gardens alumnus Jarrett Jackson plays defensive line for the Cardinals. Former Dwyer linebacker Keon Johnson and Palm Beach Central offensive lineman Renato Brown are also on Louisville’s roster.

Louisville struggled to a 2-10 record last season, and the school fired coach Bobby Petrino in November. But Bryant said the new coaching staff, led by head coach Scott Satterfield, can get the program back on track.

“Since I first met with the coaches, I could tell they were pretty cool,” Bryant said. “But the official visit basically showed how the coaches knew what they were doing, and they sat with me and explained the plan for my years at the school.

“Everything made sense, so I knew they weren’t rookies.”
