Twice in the past three years, the Hurricanes women’s basketball team has put together an impressive enough season that they hosted NCAA Tournament games on their home floor.

And now, for the second time in three years, Miami has made sure its coach was rewarded for the team’s performance: the school announced Friday it has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Katie Meier.

The new deal, which will keep Meier in Coral Gables through the 2024-25 season, comes just two years after the coach’s contract was also extended after the 2017 season. Since, the Hurricanes have continued to be one of the more consistent teams in the ultra-competitive ACC, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in both 2018 and 2019.

“The University of Miami has been so fortunate to have Katie as our women’s basketball coach, and her record of success on the court and off is nearly unrivaled,” Miami athletic director Blake James said in a statement announcing the deal. “We are excited that with this extension, she will remain our coach for years to come and I am confident that we will reach even greater heights.”

This past season, Miami notched one of the biggest wins in program history, upsetting then-defending national champion and fourth-ranked Notre Dame. Weeks later, the Hurricanes collected another win over a top-five team when they upset then fifth-ranked Louisville in Kentucky.

Miami finished the season 25-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated after coming up just short in a 57-55 loss to Arizona State.

That tournament berth marked the 14th in program history and the eighth in the past nine years under Meier, an 18-year veteran with a 353-217 career record. Miami has also totaled at least 20 wins in nine of the past 10 seasons, including notching at least 24 wins in three of the past four years.

“Miami is my home. I’m very proud to represent this amazing institution and athletic department,” Meier said in a statement.
